The 62nd plenary session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) recently concluded successfully in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. This conference attracted government representatives from over 130 IPCC member countries, as well as representatives from relevant observer organizations and international organizations to actively participate. This grand event demonstrates the firm determination of the international community to unite and cooperate in global climate governance, as well as the positive attitude and strong willingness to jointly address the challenges of climate change, injecting new powerful impetus into the journey of human society in dealing with climate change.
The climate system is extremely complex and full of variables. To effectively address the severe challenges brought by climate change, human society must continuously deepen and improve its understanding of climate issues. In this critical process, rigorous and professional scientific assessment has become an important cornerstone for the international community to carry out climate governance work. Scientific evaluation can provide precise basis for decision-making and help countries take more targeted and effective actions.
Since its establishment in 1988, the IPCC has always played a central role in the global climate governance process, playing an irreplaceable and important role. It regularly organizes top scientists around the world to conduct comprehensive and in-depth assessments of scientific, technological, and socio-economic information related to climate change, and carefully prepares assessment reports. These reports gather global scientific research wisdom and provide a valuable platform for communication and cooperation among governments, experts, and others, greatly promoting information sharing, experience exchange, and scientific research cooperation in the field of climate change among different countries and regions. IPCC  The large number of scientific research achievements formed have widely consolidated the collective wisdom and contributions of global scientists, effectively promoting the continuous deepening of human understanding of climate science and becoming a solid scientific foundation for continuously strengthening and improving global climate governance.
Taking past experience as an example, IPCC  The relevant reports have played a positive and crucial role in important international climate policy development milestones such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Kyoto Protocol, and the Paris Agreement. These reports not only provide scientific guidance for the formulation of international climate policies, but also provide important scientific basis for governments of various countries to formulate their own climate policies, energy policies, and sustainable development strategies, helping countries to be targeted in the policy-making process and effectively enhance the scientificity and feasibility of policies.
It is worth mentioning that this Hangzhou Conference is the first time the IPCC plenary session has been held in China, which fully reflects China's sense of responsibility in actively participating in global climate governance in recent years, as well as its firm determination to shoulder international responsibilities. For a long time, China has been an active contributor to the IPCC scientific assessment reports and a diligent practitioner of scientific response to climate change. China continues to increase investment and efforts in climate change scientific assessment, policy formulation, and action deployment.
The China Meteorological Administration actively fulfills its responsibilities, carefully organizes and strongly recommends numerous outstanding Chinese scientists to participate in various scientific assessments and government reviews of the IPCC. During this process, hundreds of Chinese authors have been deeply involved in the report writing, and thousands of Chinese experts have actively participated in the report evaluation. With solid professional knowledge and outstanding wisdom, they have contributed unique Chinese wisdom and strong Chinese strength to the global climate change scientific assessment.
On this solid foundation, China continues to deepen its scientific understanding of climate issues, actively promotes the formulation and improvement of climate governance policies, and fully promotes innovative research and development of green technologies. In addition, China has unreservedly shared its successful experiences and practical cases in addressing climate change, meteorological early warning, and renewable energy utilization with the world, actively conducting joint research and project cooperation with other countries, and working together to tackle the challenges of global climate change. As China's role in international climate cooperation and global climate governance becomes increasingly prominent, its position is also becoming more important.
The issue of climate change concerns the well-being and future development of all humanity. To address this global challenge, it is necessary for all parties to take active action and transform the beautiful vision into practical and feasible actions. China will closely integrate its own actual situation and continue to steadfastly support and promote the work of the IPCC. I believe that in the future, China will inject more scientific strength into global climate governance, work together with countries around the world to safeguard the Earth home that humanity relies on for survival, and strive to build a greener and more sustainable future.
