On the 5th local time, US President Trump issued a "final warning" to the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on social media, demanding the immediate release of all still detained individuals and the return of all deceased bodies, otherwise "it will be over". According to Agence France Presse, Hamas responded on the 6th that Trump's statement was a threat to Hamas: if they do not comply with the requirements, they will "encourage" Israel to ignore the ceasefire terms.
These threats complicate issues related to the ceasefire agreement and 'encourage' the occupying party to not implement the terms of the agreement, "Hamas spokesperson Kassem said in a statement, while urging the United States to pressure Israel to enter the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.
Earlier on the 5th, Trump stated in a post, 'I am providing Israel with everything necessary to complete the mission, and if you don't do what I say, no member of Hamas will be safe.'. He also stated that if the detainees are not released, Hamas will "pay a painful price" and "release all detainees now, not later... otherwise you will be finished". Reuters reported that the Palestinian Islamic Jihad organization (Jihad) condemned this, stating that "Trump's threat clearly reveals the ugly face of the United States, shows a lack of seriousness, and abandons the agreement it mediated.
Israel and Hamas reached an agreement on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip on January 15th this year, which came into effect on January 19th. The first phase of the ceasefire will last for 6 weeks and is scheduled to end on March 1st. The second phase of ceasefire negotiations was originally scheduled to begin on February 3rd. However, in the first phase of the ceasefire, Israel and Hamas repeatedly accused each other of violating the ceasefire agreement and did not conduct substantive negotiations on the second phase ceasefire in early February in accordance with the agreement.
In addition, on March 5th local time, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt confirmed that the United States is conducting "negotiations and discussions" with Hamas regarding personnel detained in the Gaza Strip. Levitt stated that Israel has also held consultations on this matter.
